~ Decorators, I need your help! ~

I am not satisfied with my bedroom & decor.  For one thing, the bedroom is small and my king size furniture takes up allllll the space.  I'm thinking seriously of selling it and getting a queen size bed. I have been looking at upholstered headboards and getting dizzy at the thought of a decision. :-)  My king size is not that old but it is a sleigh bed and I know I don't want another or even a bed with a foot board.  Nope, not at all!  It's like an olympic event to change the sheets on this king size sucker ~  I do change the sheets often and it makes me grumpy each time.  Another thing, the carpet is chocolate brown. I really don't do brown at all.   Here's where I need some suggestions as far as redecorating 'cause I have no idea what I want at this point.  I know I have to blend with the brown 'cause I can't remove the carpet. Here are some things I do NOT want:
. the apparent standby of using chocolate and blue
. no pinks or pastels or ruffly things
. no matchy, matchy as far as furniture
I DO want:
. vivid colors
. a lot of whimsy & funky
. happy and restful

Does any of this make sense?  ;-)   If it does, please feel free to offer suggestions, send me pics or send me Candace Olsen.  Of course, I'd have to win the lottery for the latter.

Hi sweet friend...

Ohhh...sounds like you are about to embark upon a decorating adventure!!! I'm sooo excited for you!!!

Well, I love king size beds...so comfortable but...I had one once and will never have another...just because they take up too much room! Even if the room is large...they just look way oversized to me! Anyway, I also agree about not having a footboard. If you're room is small...doing a footboard just makes the room look smaller yet! Of course, these are only my opinions...and only worth two cents! Hehe! Hmmm...brown carpet! I think brown is neutral enough that you can use any color with it...so I say choose the colors that you like! I will lay money on it...they will look fabulous with the brown! You said blue is out! I think rusts/oranges...olive and spring greens...would look fabulous! But there again...I think any color that you like will go! I'm sooo excited for you, sweet friend!

You know...when I am decorating a bedroom...I always use my bed linens as a "jumping off" point to start from. It's what works for me! Sooo...maybe you should start looking at comforters, etc. The bedding will dictate the room's decor! Well Sweetie, hope this helped! Hehe! Like I said...just my two cents worth! Have lots of fun and enjoy the process!!!

Warmest wishes,

Ooooohhhh that is a tough one Pat since I have a chocolate brown, ivory and blue master bedroom. LOL! I love it! I adore our king size bed too but I do understand having a space issue. Hmmmm....How about apple green, crisp white with pops of red? I love that color combo with the brown. I can't wait to see it!

Have a good night my friend.

Hi Pat,

I'm in the same boat with my MB. Would love to change everything in it, but don't know where I want to go with it. I'm no help at all, huh?

About my meringue on my pie...I just follow the directions on the side of the JellO lemon pudding & pie mix. I use 3 egg whites, beat till frothy & VERY S-L-O-W-L-Y add the sugar, letting it get dissolved in between sprinkles. I think that's the secret.

I tried real hard NOT to whip mine too much this last time. I had been getting them too stiff & they became rubbery very quickly. This one was just at soft peaks when I stopped. Could have been a bit more fluffy but I was experimenting.

I do know that your bowl & beaters have to be completely free of any fat or oil...even the tiniest bit of yolk (fat) will spoil them.

Good luck with your next attempt. I wanna see photos!!

fondly,
Rett

I can't wait to see what you end up with. I won't be any help at all because my bed is a king that my husband's uncle made us, and I love a big bed. It does have a footboard and I didn't know it was going to. I love the look, I hate it every Sunday when I change the sheets. I just changed my room to chocolate and turquoise...so I have exactly what you don't want. Of course my furniture isn't matchy-matchy, and only my bedspread is chocolate.

With brown carpeting, it might be fun to use a bright coral and maybe a bit of lime??

Hi! I would love to change my bedroom too. I have a queen size sleigh bed and I always wanted a king size. LOL But I know what you mean about changing sheets on a king size..too big. I'm not a a fan of brown, but my daughter just painted her room tan colors and I love it! My room is pink and I can't stand it. I think I'm going to go with earth tones. Tough choice. Well, that's about it!

Hi Pat,
Well, that is a conundrum as they say...
Brown can be difficult, esp. if you don't want to go across the color wheel into the blue/greens. Can you put down a large rug to cover up most of the carpet? Perhaps something lighter? From there choose your bedding, and then your accessories. Have you considered apricot, cream, yellow, and of course there is white and all the many varieties of white which would be pretty, too. I would try that, and use many different textures, with a sisal or similar type rug over the carpet. Then perhaps a matelasse' cover for whatever bed you end up with, white, tan, off white, etc. pillows, throws, white suede chair/ottoman with lighter wood accents all might be nice. Or NOT.
I think you will know what to do when you go shopping for your bedding. There are so many pretty things to choose from now! Do you have a Z Gallerie around? They do great merchandising, steal (I mean, ahem, borrow) some of their ideas! There you have my way-more-than-two-cents...for what it's worth! (BTW - I do have a degree in int. design, but I think it should always be up to the person who lives in the space, not the designer, to make the final decisions on things! You know how things make you feel, you'll know what feels right after you read all these comments!)
