~ Incredible 4th of July Cake ~

You simply must ~ yes, it's a must! ~ go over to Amanda's blog and see her amazing creation!  It is one of the most unique cakes I've seen and I want you to see it too.  She is extremely talented and just as nice. She suggested that I take a look at the tutorial she used as a guide at Make It & Love It by Brittany.

If you want something super impressive for the holiday, this is it!

~ Getting To Know You ~

I haven't been on top of my game this past week so I'm trying to get back in the groove. Today I'm linking up with Keely again at Mannland5 for another Sunday Getting To Know You.

The Questions:

1.If you had 5000.00 to spend on plastic surgery what would you have done?
I would have my neck and eyes done...or dental implants.  Of course, the latter would cost more. I used to look at my dad's mother and see her neck...or lack thereof...and think, "I never want to look like that." And now....here I are!

2. Do you watch Soap operas and if so what is your favorite and why?
If you call the "Real Housewives of _ _ _", then yes, I do.  ;-)

3. Favorite clothing brand?
I really don't have a favorite brand now...used to wear a lot of Liz Claiborne and Carole Little when I was working.  I do have some favorite places to shop like Stein Mart, Old Navy, Tarjay, etc.

4. An afternoon shopping spree at your favorite store or maid service for a year?
No question ~ maid service!!   I love for things to be clean and tidy...just hate doing it.

5. would you ever vajazzle?
Ewwwwwwww.......NO!

6. Favorite Disney Princess?
Cinderella

7. Last movie that made you bawl your eyes out?
Sometimes I watch "The Bucket List" again...as a reminder to get out there & live.  If I'm not doing it, then that makes me sad.

8. Have you ever broken any bones and if so what?
I'm afraid I'm a huge klutz with lack of coordination. I broke my right arm, near the wrist, when I was 12 and roller skating while at a school function.  I broke my right shoulder in 2 places and the humerous in '95....fell in my kitchen!   Can you top that?  ;-)

~ Wednesday Gratitude ~

It's Wednesday and time to link up with Heidi at Heart and Home to share our blessings, miracles and gratitude!  Please stop by her beautiful blog and check it out along with the others that have joined in!

Texas is more than hot these days...yesterday 101* with a heat index of 106* around our area. Needless to say, I do not get outside!  I take care of errands early in the day, meet friends for lunch and get back inside to "try" and stay cool.  These are a few of my ideas for staying cool:
air conditioning, ceiling fans as well as other fans scattered about, staying hydrated with lots of water and wearing cool fabrics. I still have my coffee in the mornings and iced tea (no sugar for me) and I love cranberry-limeades from Sonic. :-)  I buy no sodium sparkling water and mix it with sugar-free juices for a refreshing drink too. Of course, one must increase the water intake if you're drinking caffeine.  Think shade, swimming pools or remember the icy weather last winter.  :-)  Soooo, if it's cooler where you are and you long for summer temps, come on down!

~ A Woman Should Have ~

MAYA ANGELOU'S
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....
enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
something perfect to wear if the employer, or date of her dreams
wants to see her in an hour.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
a youth she's content to leave behind.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling it in her old age.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE....
one friend who always makes her laugh...and one who lets her cry.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal, that will make her guests feel honored.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE...
a feeling of control over her destiny.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to fall in love without losing herself.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to quit a job, break up with a lover, and confront a friend
without ruining the friendship.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
that she can't change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
that her childhood may not have been perfect....but it's over.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
what she would and wouldn't do for love or more.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.....
how to live alone... even if she doesn't like it.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
whom she can trust, whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't take it personally.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
where to go...be it to her best friend's kitchen table...

or a charming inn in the woods....when her soul needs
soothing.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
What she can and can't accomplish in a day...a month...
a year.

AND REMEMBER:
GOOD FRIENDS ARE LIKE STARS. YOU DON'T ALWAYS SEE THEM,
BUT YOU ALWAYS KNOW THEY ARE THERE!!!!

Be yourself...everyone else is already taken!

~ I am so blessed! ~

I wasn't able to link up with Heidi at Heart & Home this week for Wednesday Gratitude but I've certainly been feeling it!  Had the cataract surgery that morning and could immediately tell a difference ~ positive difference.  I had a re-check appt yesterday morning and all is well. Just have to continue with the many drops daily, not bend over and take it easy.  I can see things distinctly and with such definition ~ awesome!

Thanks a million for your kind thoughts and prayers ~

~ Will be away from the computer...

...for 2-3 days.  I have the first cataract surgery tomorrow, 16th.  I'm so looking forward to new vision!!  Try to stay cool and dry ~ seems there's so much flooding (sad, sad!) and too much heat for my taste.

~ Georgia Peach Pound Cake ~

Hmmmmmm, delish!  I made this last weekend for a dinner party I attended.  Haven't felt like sharing much this week although I am better today. Think I'm kicking the ol' bronchitis to the curb!  :-)   Anyway, if you like a great Southern dessert ~ and who doesn't? ~ try this with fresh peaches.  I used frozen as we don't have the best fresh peaches available yet and it was very tasty.  I can only imagine the incredible flavor with fresh ones though ~  and you could certainly use other fresh fruits.  Don't you know that fresh cherries would be divine? Of course, it is NOT low fat, etc.  Like Paula Deen, you gotta use that butter & sugar!  :-)

I have not adjusted to taking pictures while cooking or baking yet.  :-)  I did think of it as I took the cake from the oven so there are a few pics to share with you.  Here's the recipe:

Ingredients
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups white sugar ~ I used a scant 2 cups since the frozen peaches were unsweetened. Depending on the sweetness of the fruit, you could prolly use less.
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups fresh peaches, pitted and chopped

Directions
1.Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Butter a 10 inch tube pan and coat with white sugar.
I did not use the sugar...sprayed the pan with Baker's Joy ~

2.In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla. Reserve 1/4 cup of flour for later, ~ important! ~ and sift together the remaining flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Use the reserved flour to coat the chopped peaches, then fold the floured peaches into the batter. Spread evenly into the prepared pan.

3.Bake for 60 to 70 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely. 16 servings

~ Gratitude and Miracles ~

Wow, the weekend seemed to go by so quickly...and this feels like Monday to me.  However, it's time to join Heidi at Heart and Home for this week's Gratitude Wednesday. Please stop by her blog and check it out...as well as other's that have posted.  A friend shared this quote with me today:

"This place where you are right now, God circled on a map for you."
~ Hafiz

Talk about perfect timing! :-)   I really believe that God has a plan for all of us and He brings people into our lives for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  I've questioned the "why" the past few months in regard to my move, the people I miss, (of course, I can still see them...silly me!)  and the changes I've experienced.  I also believe that what you think about, you bring about.  I am also a glass half-full kinda gal so these unsettling thoughts and feelings have NOT been comfortable for me.  I want to continue to be grateful that I am safe, in good health and making new friends. I've decided to play the "Miracle Game" ~ made up by
me.  ;-)

Miracles ~ large or small ~ happen to us all the time.  All we need to do is be aware ~  Miracle #1 today...waking up with energy and a to-do list that was long.  I took Forrester to be groomed and, miracle #2, they made the effort to get him bathed and groomed by a certain time so I could run my errands and then come by and pick him up...without having to drive home, then back there & back home again. :-)   I paid some bills, had a pedicure and found what I needed at Target & Wal-Mart. I was able to pay the bills, the girl I liked was available for the pedi...miracles 3, 4, 5 & 6.  I was safe in traffic, my A/C is working well and I was given fresh watermelon when I arrived home...miracles 7, 8 & 9.   Ok, it is my game so please allow me to share....ha ha

When we are in a new situation, there's really not a valuable purpose for anxiety.  We are not going to get to where we want to be mentally or emotionally by freaking out. [No matter how many times, it has yet to work for me :-) ] I think that life is a constant in change....and letting go.  Relaxing into it, finding the good when we wake up each morning and thanking God for all our blessings each night is a step in the right direction.  At least I'm starting those steps!  Wanna join me?
